With no guarantees on how long your playing career will last, it is important to plan your finances now to ensure your lifestyle and financial aspirations are maintained once you have retired.

As an example, we utilised a three pools scenario for a player we recently advised.

Pool 1 – His primary aim was to save funds to spend and enjoy prior to age 35.
Pool 2 – Build a portfolio to top up his income from age 35 to age 55 to help support his family whilst in alternative employment within the sport.
Pool 3 – Invest offshore to spend from age 55 onwards when fully retired and living overseas. His plans were to retire to a warmer European climate.

Your financial plans will need to be personalised to adapt to alterations in tax law and economic conditions and future country of residence in retirement to remain effective.
